Editor’s Letter: January 2025

Snow in the Derbyshire countryside, Peak District winter

As we welcome a new year, I can’t help but be in awe of the beautiful scenes Derbyshire has been blessed with so far this January. The landscape is full of wonders. Low mist drapes itself across the peaks, and if you’re lucky enough to have been blessed with a white blanket of snow, it’s nature’s way of reminding us to take things slow and ease ourselves into this new year ahead of us.

January - typically a time for new beginnings and goal-setting - is still very much winter. Rather than going all-guns-blazing into 2025, let’s just take a minute to rest, be still, and appreciate those moments of quietude that winter offers: a hearty stew simmering on the stove, the crackle of a wood-burning fire, and long walks in the countryside that leave us with icy toes and rosy cheeks.

And without getting ahead of ourselves, there’s also the sharp, earthy scent of cold soil, reminding us that nature is quietly preparing for its next burst of life.

On the blog this month, I look forward to sharing some of my favourite winter walks where you can really appreciate the Derbyshire landscape. I’ll be talking to Michelle from The Wellness Directory about her plans for upcoming retreats in 2025, and talking you through my plans for the garden too. I’ll also be sharing my own wellness rituals and offering gentle ways to nurture the body and mind during these cold, dark months.

So, wrap up warmly, keep the kettle close, and savour the delights of January in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Thank you for joining me on this journey - I look forward to sharing it with you month by month.

Wishing you peace, joy and a gentle start to 2025,

Olivia x
